Jeffrey studied Economics at Vassar College ('77) where he studied abroad at the London School of Economics his Junior year. He earned an M.A., M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in Economics at Jale University. After teaching at Princeton University, Jeffrey worked at the Brookings Institution* and Wolfensohn & Co.** He went on to become manager director, and later chief financial officer, of the World Bank, after which he joined Hellman & Friedman.*** In 2009 Barack Obama nominated Jeffrey as Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance, where he served for two years before returning to Hellman & Friedman. He serves on multiple Board of Trustees, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New York City, German Marshall Fund of the United States, and the Central Synagogue of New York where they believe that "Israel is central to what it means to be Jewish, and [they're] committed to an Israel that’s strong, vibrant, and at peace.”
