John graduated from University of California in Santa Barbara with a BA in English. After dabbling in the arts, he went on to join the family industry: investments. After an introduction at Chase Manhattan Bank, he went on to take the reigns from his father and run Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder Advisers, later renamed First Eagle Investment Management, as Co-President, co-CEO, and Director. First eagle is best known for its mutual funds* and as of 2010, the business reported that it held about $45 billion. He is a Director at Arnhold Ceramics, the Arnhold and Mulago Foundations, and Hanseatic Asset Management LBG. Mr. Arnhold is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of Trinity Episcopal Schools, Vassar College, Sports, and Arts in Schools Foundation, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. I’ve only had the pleasure of meeting you once attending a lecture my daughter was giving at Vassar. Thank you for commenting on her “Star Quality” She has the modesty of a typical intense researcher but can brighten up for an audience. It is extremely rare I get to see her jump for joy as an adult, but she was ecstatic when you named her to the Arnhold Family Chair at Vassar, and very proud.
